Last day in Costa Rica for the summer

It’s been an amazing trip. Perhaps the trip of a lifetime. It’s certainly the longest I’ve had time to relax and spend time with the kids that I’ve ever had. It seemed so easy… And we want to do it again- every summer.

I actually can’t figure out why life isn’t always this easy. This is not true- we’ve been absent of thinking much about paying bills or working enough to cover bills for 5 weeks. We will make up for it after, as we prepared ahead of time for it as well. We also haven’t had to keep the kids active in school, art, sports, music and socialization, other than what has come happenstance while on our adventures, and this all takes up a lot of time and energy during our normal life as well.

So what will we bring back from this trip? Knowing this is here waiting for us certainly. The kids knowing we had this together… I don’t feel like I spent tons of time with each child, but we had a lot of family time which I hope they cherish and remember when our schedules get busier. And, if we do this every summer, its something they can look forward to each year. I’ll need to put together a comprehensive photo book that we can look at together. I think for them the memories are such a blur- they’ve done so much and many times each day is as good as the next.

Often, despite being on vacation, we have felt quite busy. Is it just my nature to create busy everywhere I go??

Luckily, this weekend, our last 3 nights here – is not busy. Outside of a little bit of work which I finished this morning, these last 2 full days are all about relaxing by the pool and beach. Without having to navigate anywhere, think about which tours to take, or worry about how much food costs, it is about is easy as it gets on vacation with 3 young kids. I spent all afternoon at the pool and beach – read about 100 pages in my book. It was definitely relaxing. And although the food at the buffets have not been great, tonight we tried out the Italian restaurant at the resort and I really enjoyed it.

The girls made a friend that they played with at the pool and beach. Rylan and Tim enjoyed a long session in the ocean. And, we had sun all day long – something we maybe haven’t had the entire trip. We couldn’t have ordered up a more perfect day at this resort.

I want many more days of sitting in the sun and reading, but this will have to be the last for some time. Thank goodness for it! I will enjoy it!
